Kate’s public art practice focuses on collaboration, place‑making, and using large‑scale works to shift how communities experience their everyday environments. Her most significant mural to date is the Frances Hodgkins Mural on the Waikanae Library façade, created in partnership with Ruth Robertson‑Taylor and the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Completed across 2019–2020 and funded through the Council’s Public Art Fund, the work was designed to reinvigorate Waikanae Town Centre while the library building awaited its future. Drawing on the neighbouring Toi Mahara Gallery’s connection to Frances Hodgkins, the mural brought colour, energy, and cultural resonance to a dormant corner of the town square.

In 2017, Kate collaborated with local artist Diane Connal and the Kāpiti Coast District Council on a community‑painted mural for the Waikanae Beach public toilets. Inspired by the colours and rhythms of the coastline, her design wrapped a wave motif around the buildings, shifting from sunrise to sunset. Over several weekends, local residents joined the artists to bring the mural to life, transforming a tagged and tired structure into a vibrant expression of community pride.
